What You Will Do
- Reporting directly to the Director of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Emergency Management Specialist assists campus departments with critical incident planning, strategy development, mitigation, preparation, response and recovery management and emergency preparedness.
- Provides guidance to departments relating to established Emergency Management (EM) procedures.
- Assists the Director in developing emergency operations plans, recovery plans, and preparedness plans providing insight and feedback to improve processes.
- Collaborates with the Director to develop correction action/improvement plans and after-action reports for campus units.
- Stays abreast of current local, state, and federal laws pertaining to EM. Reviews existing policies and plans for compliance with NIMS and FEMA.
- Serves on various committees and emergency management working groups on behalf of the Director.
- Provides feedback regarding existing emergency management policies and procedures and makes recommendations to the Director.
- Assists with the implementation of the comprehensive long term preparedness strategies to include coordination and instruction of developed trainings, continuity of operations plans, recover plans, mitigation best practices, and performing gap analysis.
- Assists in testing telecommunications, radio communications, and indoor and outdoor warning system as needed.
- Assists in repairing and troubleshooting any emergency preparedness communications.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
-Bachelor's Degree in any field.
-Three (3) years (36 months) of emergency management experience.
-Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100 and IS-700 curriculum.
-Possession of a valid/current State of Illinois driver's license.
-No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
Preferred Qualifications
-Bachelors degree in emergency management, business continuity, public administration or related public safety field,
-5+ years of experience in emergency management. Experience working as command staff or planning section chief in an EOC. Experience in training and exercise development and implementation. Experience in after action report generation. Knowledge of operational response measures by first responders
-Certified Instructor for FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) courses to include ICS 100,200,300,400,700 and 800
-Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100 and IS-700 curriculum.
-FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner Certification
-FEMA Master Trainer Certification
-Certified Business Continuity Planner (through either DRII or BSI) or ability and commitment to achieve certification within one year of hire
-International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or ability, qualifications and commitment to achieve certification within one year of hire
-40HR HAZWOPER Certification or ability
