About Superior Rigging and Erecting

Superior Rigging and Erecting is a specialty crane, rigging, and steel erection contractor built on safety, discipline, and accountability. We support complex industrial and commercial projects across the Southeast and are known for engineered lift execution, field precision, and a culture that makes the Tough Look Easy. Our work includes critical lifts, machinery moves, structural steel erection, and high-risk engineered operations where technical accuracy and field execution must align without compromise.

Position Summary

Superior Rigging and Erecting is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to lead engineered lift planning and provide direct field support for crane and rigging operations. This is not a desk-only design role. The Senior Rigging Engineer partners closely with Operations, Safety, Sales, and field leadership to ensure every engineered lift is technically sound, compliant, and executable in real-world conditions.

This role is structured to grow into a technical leadership position as the company expands its engineered services capabilities. The right candidate will combine engineering discipline with field credibility and operational awareness.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering and Lift Planning

  • Develop engineered lift plans, rigging drawings, calculations, and stamped documents for complex and non-routine lifting operations
  • Perform structural analysis of loads, rigging systems, support conditions, and crane configurations
  • Review load charts, ground bearing pressures, rigging capacities, and lift sequencing for technical accuracy
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for engineered rigging and lifting activities
  • Establish and refine internal engineering standards, templates, and calculation protocols

Field and Operational Support

  • Conduct jobsite visits to assess site constraints, access, ground conditions, and lift feasibility
  • Provide on-site engineering support for critical lifts and high-risk operations
  • Collaborate with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Crane Operators to translate engineering plans into executable field strategies
  • Troubleshoot technical challenges in real time and provide documented engineering guidance
  • Support preconstruction efforts by evaluating technical feasibility during bidding and sales planning

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all engineered lift plans comply with applicable federal and state regulations, including requirements under the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and industry standards such as those issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers
  • Lead engineering risk assessments for non-routine and high-criticality lifts
  • Document engineered controls, safety factors, and compliance assumptions within lift plans
  • Partner with Safety leadership to reinforce a disciplined, zero-incident culture across engineered operations

Leadership and Department Development

  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff on rigging calculations, structural analysis, and lift design methodology
  • Support internal training initiatives related to lift planning, equipment limitations, and engineering best practices
  • Assist executive leadership in building a scalable rigging engineering function
  • Contribute to hiring, process development, and long-term department structure planning
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Structural Engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia or Florida or ability to obtain through reciprocity
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in rigging engineering, heavy lift planning, structural analysis, or crane-related engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of crane configurations, rigging hardware, load distribution, and engineered lift planning principles
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings and coordinating with field operations teams
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable engineering design software
  • Ability to work in an in-person, field-supported environment in the Atlanta area
  • Must pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and licensure
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Direct involvement in high-profile, technically challenging projects
  • Opportunity to build and lead a dedicated engineering function within a growing organization
