Assistant Professor of Education
Spartanburg Methodist College
Full-Time, Tenure-Track
Begins August 2026
Spartanburg Methodist College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Education to enhance our expanding Education Concentration within the Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies (BAMS). This concentration prepares students for roles in educational support, community-based learning, and graduate-level teacher preparation (MAT programs). The position will commence in August 2026 and will primarily involve on-campus teaching.
About the Position
We seek a dedicated educator who is passionate about training future teachers, committed to inclusive teaching practices, and eager to work with a diverse student body, including many first-generation college students.
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach foundational courses such as:
Introduction to Education
Child & Adolescent Development
Educational Psychology
Classroom Management & Instructional Design
Key Responsibilities
Teach four undergraduate courses per semester within the Education Concentration.
Contribute to curriculum design, assessment, and program development as the concentration expands.
Supervise field observation experiences and strengthen collaborations with Upstate K–12 schools.
Participate in faculty committees, student engagement initiatives, and campus events.
Advocate for SMC’s mission to develop the whole student academically, personally, and professionally.

Qualifications
Required:
Doctorate in Education or a closely related field (Ph.D., Ed.D.). A Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in education may also be considered.
Proven excellence in P–12 or higher education teaching.
Commitment to engaging with a diverse student body.
Ability to teach face-to-face courses on SMC’s campus.
Preferred:
Experience teaching undergraduates or working with pre-service teachers.
Familiarity with South Carolina K–12 contexts.
Experience supervising field placements.
Familiarity with CAEP-aligned assessment practices.
