Bloomingfoods has been a community-owned cooperative (co-op) grocery store since 1976. In 1975, a group of people got together and created a business that would have a local focus and bring them all the great food that they could not find anywhere else. PURPOSE: To support the front end department team in performing daily operations of the department to meet the goals and objectives set by the Assistant Store Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. CUSTOMER SERVICE
- Provide internal and external customers with excellent service at all times.
- Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
- Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service in all areas according to established customer service vision and standards.
- Use appropriate language, behavior, appearance, and overall conduct with or in the presence of customers, vendors, and store personnel according to BCS and store policies.
2. OPERARTIONS
- Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front end, by monitoring for strong money-handling procedures, verifying drawers, prepare daily deposits & change orders, document over/shorts and provide regular performance feedback to cashiers.
- Promote membership to customers and assist in selling memberships as needed.
- Assist customers in placing special orders. Call customers and facilitate pick-up as needed.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available (register tape, pens, sacks, etc.) at registers.
- Ensure consistent on-the-job training.
- Ensure that all department staff is aware of notices and policy changes.
- Pursue continuing education opportunities when possible and appropriate.
- Perform other tasks assigned by Assistant and Store Manager.
- Provide a friendly, welcoming and engaging checkout experience for every customer.
- Use correct codes to ensure accurate sales receipts and inventory records.
- Employ proper scanning and handling technique to ensure efficiency and product integrity with all transactions.
- Bag or assist with the bagging of customer orders and offer carry-out assistance as necessary.
3. LOCATION DUTIES
- Ensure carts and baskets are available to customers in designated areas.
- Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to the retail floor, dining areas, restrooms, and facility grounds.
- Maintain restroom cleanliness throughout the day and ensure adequate supplies of tissue and towels.
- Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and immediately report deviations from established norms.
- Perform opening and closing procedures including set-up and tear-down of displays, cleaning, and security procedures.
- Participate in regular store inventories.
- Follow co-op policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other co-op documents.
- Take responsibility for the effectiveness of your training and performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant or Store Manager or the Person-In-Charge.
- Assist in the monitoring & maintenance of all exterior areas of the store including parking lot, sidewalk, street areas adjacent to the store, exterior of the building etc.
- Participate in co-op events, assist POS Coordinator in ensuring store event materials are present and correct.
4. PERSON IN CHARGE (PIC)
- Provide guidance and work direction to department team members.
- Ensure prompt, friendly, courteous customer service. Handle customer questions and complaints that can't be handled by other staff.
- Oversee staff on shift in cleaning and maintenance procedures to keep store in clean, orderly condition.
- Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures. Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns during shift as needed.
- Carry out established opening and closing procedures.
- Uphold security procedures and support staff in dealing with shoplifters, disorderly customers, and emergencies.
- Ensure break schedule is followed during shift.
5. COMMUNICATION
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Maintain open communication links with Manager and peers to address inquiries and feedback.
- Maintain an environment of positive communication among store personnel in order to promote stronger work teams.
