Job Summary: The Night Manager is responsible for cooking dinner and delegating student/employee workers to their positions on the line to ensure a smooth and safe dinner shift.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Preparing meals according to the cafeteria's menu, ensuring that food is cooked properly and meets quality standards.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment is crucial. Night cooks are responsible for cleaning cooking utensils, equipment, and work surfaces to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Coordinating student workers and employees, assigning them to their positions and ensuring a smooth and successful dinner shift.
- Properly clean and sanitize the kitchen thoroughly, store any remaining food, and ensure all equipment is turned off and secured.
- Handling complaints, questions, and concerns from guests, communicating with the Executive Chef and Operations Manager if there is any follow up needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Understanding various cooking techniques, food safety standards, and basic nutrition principles
- Understanding of proper sanitation techniques to health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, including chopping, slicing, grilling, frying, and baking. Ability to follow recipes accurately and adjust quantities as needed.
- Efficiently managing time and multitasking is crucial in a fast-paced cafeteria environment. Being able to prioritize tasks and coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service is essential
- Maintain a clean and well-organized environment.
Working Conditions:
• May work long, irregular hours that include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must stand for extended periods.
• Are often exposed to hot and cold temperatures.
• Occasionally work near contaminants and hazardous equipment.
• Often work in a noisy and distracting environment.
Required Physical Abilities:
Physical demands of this position include repetitive movements, bending, twisting, reaching overhead, and carrying weighted materials up to 50 lbs. Must be able to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
Education:
High School Required. Associate’s/bachelor’s preferred. Culinary Arts certificate or Degree preferred.
At least 5 years of cooking/managing experience.
