Set-Up Service Technician

Crownstone Equipment is seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically inclined Set-Up Service Technician to join our service team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, problem solving, and preparing equipment to meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance. The Set-Up Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, assembling, and performing light repairs on new, used, and rental equipment to ensure all products are delivered to customers in excellent working condition. This position plays a key role in supporting customer satisfaction and operational excellence while collaborating closely with the service, sales, and rental teams.

Role Description
The Set-Up Service Technician performs inspections, equipment assembly, maintenance, and light repair work to ensure safe and efficient operation of Lawn & Garden, grounds maintenance, and small engine equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to follow OEM standards and company procedures. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, quality-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced service environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Equipment Inspection & Reporting
  • Perform Arrival Condition Reports (ACRs) on incoming new equipment.
  • Complete inspection reports on used equipment for resale or service evaluation.
  • Document findings accurately and communicate concerns to service leadership.
  • Ensure inspection forms and work orders are completed thoroughly and consistently.
Rental Equipment Support
  • Conduct rental check-in and check-out inspections to verify equipment condition.
  • Identify wear, damage, or service needs and report appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining rental fleet readiness, safety, and organization.
Equipment Set-Up & Delivery Preparation
  • Perform set-up of sold equipment to ensure proper operation and customer-ready presentation.
  • Install aftermarket accessories and optional equipment such as attachments, lighting kits, guards, and other add-ons.
  • Test all systems to confirm equipment performance prior to delivery.
  • Ensure all equipment meets OEM, dealership, and safety standards.
Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance and light repairs on:
    • Grounds maintenance equipment
    • Lawn & Garden products
    • Two-cycle equipment (trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, etc.)
  • Assist service technicians with larger repairs and shop projects as needed.
  • Follow manufacturer guidelines, safety protocols, and dealership service standards.
General Shop & Safety Duties
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and equipment handling practices.
  • Collaborate professionally with technicians, service advisors, and other departments.
  • Support additional branch operations as needed.
Educational & Experience Requirements
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with small engines or equipment repair.
  • Familiarity with Lawn & Garden, landscaping, or light construction equipment preferred.
  • Ability to perform detailed inspections and clearly document findings.
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in dealership service, rental fleet maintenance, or equipment set-up.
  • Knowledge of two-cycle engine repair and diagnostics.
  • Experience installing aftermarket accessories or attachments.
  • Technical or trade school training in small engine or equipment repair.
Essential Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
Note: This position is considered safety sensitive.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in a service shop environment with occasional outdoor work. The technician will work closely with service advisors, mechanics, sales, and rental staff to ensure equipment meets company and customer expectations.
