About This Position
Position Highlights:
The Privacy Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a systematic, coordinated and objective approach to auditing, monitoring, and management of data and processes for all corporate entities. Plans, schedules and performs HIPAA Privacy audits of clinical systems as well as reported privacy incident audit evaluations and VIP audit alert requests. Develops and maintains audit reports. Responsible for the general maintenance of the Fair Warning Privacy Surveillance application, including system upgrades and changes. Exercises independent judgment regarding real and/or potential privacy related issues. Responsible for researching privacy related topics and regulation changes. Responsible for clear and effective communications and training and education. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and ensures that confidential and proprietary information are handled discreetly and information is safeguarded according to federal, state and organization policies.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, schedules and performs HIPAA Privacy audits of systems as well as reported privacy incident audit evaluations and VIP audit alert requests.
- Develops and maintains audit reports.
- Maintains Fair Warning Privacy Surveillance system changes/upgrades.
- Exercises independent judgment regarding real or potential problems and brings these to the attention of the Privacy Officer; documents the intake of privacy complaints in the reporting database and maintains hotline call log, tracks and documents through resolution.
- Researches privacy related topics and prepares summaries as directed. Stays abreast of current laws and regulations, and changes that may affect the Center and communicates changes to management and other appropriate staff.
- Develops and delivers HIPAA/Privacy related training to workforce members through clear and effective communications.
- Ability to speak clearly in front of small and large groups.
- Conducts interviews, facilitates corrective actions, and delivers results of audits, investigations and other assessments orally and in writing to all levels of management.
- Performs reviews of Business Associate Agreements and other documents for compliance with privacy laws and regulations.
- Recommends changes to organizational practice, policies, and procedures as needed in response to audit issues
- Participates in special project investigations such as regulatory request by OCR HIPAA investigations /HIPAA Audit protocol as required.
- Ensures that confidential and proprietary information and activities are handled discreetly and information is safeguarded.
- Maintains proper privacy monitoring, tracking and reporting systems on a consistent basis.
- Reviews and maintains privacy policies. Maintain privacy occurrence data analysis to track system wide incidents and trends.
- Effectively maintains collaborative working relationships with faculty, physician leadership, hospital management and staff to achieve increased satisfaction with and participation in the Compliance Program.
- Assists in documentation and evidencing an effective Corporate Compliance Program consistent with professional standards.

- Experience working with enterprise databases and analytics.
- Ability to work proactively and collaboratively to fulfill the objectives of the Compliance Program and address matters with credibility, objectivity, and confidentiality in accordance with professional auditing and investigative standards.

- Exhibits a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Demonstrated experience working with MS Office applications.
Credentials and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five (5) years of work experience in health care, compliance or privacy-related field.
- Knowledge of: Medical terminology; healthcare compliance/privacy audit methodologies, and confidentiality standards
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, health care, legal or related field
- Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Health Care Privacy Compliance (CHPC) by the Health Care Compliance Association.
- Knowledge of Soarian, Power Chart and other Cerner applications.
- Knowledge of Compliance 360.
- Knowledge of Fair Warning or other privacy monitoring solutions.
