Job Summary

  • The Technical Accounting Manager is a high-impact role that will work cross-functionally throughout the organization to manage Portside’s technical accounting operations. This person will report to the Assistant Controller and be responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex technical accounting issues primarily related to revenue and M&A as well as other compliance issues. The role is designed for someone who is detail-oriented and eager to seek out new ways to make an impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical accounting issues quickly & accurately, and document accounting positions in memorandums for revenue, M&A, and other ad hoc transactions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as FP&A, tax, legal, research, product, and operations to provide accounting guidance on contracts, business initiatives, and new transactions.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Stay abreast of new accounting pronouncements and lead the implementation of necessary changes in accounting policies and practices.Manage company compliance with US and international laws and regulations as they relate to finance operations (e.g. sales tax, GST, payroll taxes, income tax etc.)
  • Serving as a liaison to external auditors and tax preparers
  • Supervising accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting departments for adherence to US GAAP
  • Monitor state physical and economic nexus and register as needed
  • Prepare, file, and reconcile sales & use tax returns
  • Assist the M&A team with various post-acquisition implementation activities including but not limited to; establishing opening balance sheets, valuations, working with external accounting firms, integrating the accounting tech stack, etc.
  • Other ad hoc projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, B2B software or start-up experience is a plus
  • BS in Accounting or finance, CPA or Masters preferred
  • Ability to think critically through complex situations and apply proper accounting treatment
  • Prior experience with multi-company, multi-currency organizations
  • Proven experience in an accounting advisory consulting practice, or industry experience in a technical accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of ASC 606 and experience applying it in practice
  • Experience working with modern software and systems, particularly NetSuite
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • M&A experience with a focus on ASC 805 evaluations

Location: This role requires in-office presence three days per week at our Boise, ID office.
