About This Position
Purpose:
To set up and operate conventional mill, lathes and grinders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills needed such as using Word and Excel software.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
- Select, align and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories and work material.
- Calculate machining factors such as speed, feed, depth and angle of cut and coolant flow etc.
- Inspection of cutting tools for sharpness and usability.
- Detect malfunctions in the equipment and communicate their needs / requirements to resolve machining issues with supervisors.
- Start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial calipers, depth gage indicators etc. during the manufacturing of the work piece.
- Inspect work piece and create an inspection document for future reference, if necessary.
- Clean and perform maintenance functions on the machines, tool and parts.
- Perform general clean-up of the surrounding work area and equipment.
- Coolant replacement.
Machine Shop Tech I must demonstrate the following Skills / Competency in order to perform their job position successfully. The list below is representative of the Skills / Competency requirements but not limited to the following items:
- Must have a complete understanding of the requirements for a Trim Die Assembly.
- Must have an understanding of the Trim Die Assembly inspection forms and how to fill them out correctly.
- Must work safely to prevent on the job injuries.
- Have knowledge of cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures and other accessories used on the CNC milling center, manual mills, lathe, grinders, and tool grinder.
- Must have basic math skills that include geometry and algebra to calculate material fabrication.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and informatively both orally and in a written format.
- Must have a good attendance/punctuality record.
- Must be detailed oriented and quality conscience.

- Must be able to perform repetitive motions and have a strong finger dexterity and movement.
