Job Summary
The Director – Medical/Surgical, in collaboration with appropriate interdisciplinary team members, is responsible for assuring that services are provided in a safe, efficient, and cost effective manner that enhances patient, staff, and physician satisfaction. The Director will work with budgets, develop, and implement operating systems. This position will also hire, train, and evaluate staff as well as manage quality improvement processes. In addition, the Director will be responsible for enhancing practice and services, ensure that the department meets all regulatory body requirements, and assist with developing policies for management functions for Medical Surgical Nursing Services.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience
- Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in nursing required.
- Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare related field preferred.
- 3 Years in nursing leadership experience required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Dakota and/or meeting the requirements of Multi-state licensure is required.
- Certified in specialty area of nursing practice required within 12 months of hire.
