About This Position

Job Summary:

The Substation Test Technician II is responsible for performing a variety of tests and inspections on substation equipment to ensure its safe and reliable operation. They work under the supervision of the Substation Test Supervisor and play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the electrical grid.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform testing, maintenance, and repair of low, medium, and high voltage circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, motor control, and other electrical apparatus in utility substation environments.

• Testing power and current transformers, including Power Factor (Doble) and TTR

• Testing on low, medium, and high voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests.

• Completing mechanical work and repairs on breakers

• Experience in substations, power plants, primary power distribution

• Follow safety procedures and regulations.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Technical or vocational training in electrical maintenance or a related field.

• NETA certified not required but is a +++

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of substation power systems experience

• Experience with substation testing equipment and procedures

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of electrical theory and principles.

• Experience with substation equipment and components.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong safety awareness and adherence to safety procedures.

Work Location and Travel:

• 2730 Mine and Mill Road, Lakeland, Florida 33801

• May require frequent travel to other substation locations.

Work Environment:

• This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary (Monday to Sunday with some overnight work) and overtime is frequently required.

• This position is safety sensitive in nature, which means employees perform duties so fraught with risks of injury to self or others, or environmental injury, that even a momentary lapse of concentration or attention can have disastrous consequences.

• The working environment is often in harsh elements (hot/humid and/or cold temperatures, rain, etc.) Industrial environments often have exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving heavy equipment, and other safety-sensitive hazards/risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.

Exposure to Work: May be exposed to noise, dust, and electrical hazards. May be exposed to temperature extremes. May work in confined spaces or around live electrical equipment.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
