About This Position

Overview:
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our company. The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing innovative HVAC system designs that meet client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory codes. This role requires expertise in HVAC engineering principles, proficiency in CAD software, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Company History:
Founded in 2008; we are a temperature controls HVAC company. In 2015 we purchased Technical Energy Solutions, another great controls group. We have 3 branch locations being Grand Rapids, Alpena, and Rochester Hills.

Responsibilities:
 Field verify any ambiguous information to ensure accurate design for owner-direct
projects. Seek guidance from the Professional Engineer (PE) for field verification on
bid/spec projects.
 Produce precise control drawings that align with the scope of work and specifications, encompassing bill of material schedules, network layouts (MSTP & IP), panel build diagrams, system flow diagrams, point schedules, and any customized wiring details.
 Complete accurate schedules for valves, dampers, VFDs, and airflow monitoring that meet applicable specifications.
 Upon obtaining approval from the engineer and project manager for the control submittal, proceed to order materials and prepare project books for field technicians, along with checkout sheets for the Professional Engineers (PEs).
 Update the material tracking sheet on the CSI server with the ordered materials for the relevant branch.
 Monitor estimated arrival times of materials and follow up with vendors regarding any outstanding items.
 Attend and facilitate turnover meetings for PEs, SEs, and field technicians as requested by the PE.
 Update drawings as necessary throughout the project to incorporate missed equipment or accommodate change orders and distribute them to the team.
 Upon project completion, update the control drawings to reflect any field modifications and prepare a new submittal for the owner. This submittal will include a warranty letter confirming project completion and specifying the warranty periods.
 Manage inventory and organize returned materials from projects. Maintain the parts trailer and oversee the "not free shelf." Order materials as needed to replenish the "not free shelf."
 Handle all RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations) for projects. For faulty Distech controllers, ensure that the PE provides a case number before proceeding with the RMA process.

Qualifications:
 Bachelor of Science in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Engineering
 Proven experience (3+ years) in HVAC system design, preferably in commercial or
industrial projects.
 Strong knowledge of HVAC engineering principles, load calculations, and system
components.
 Ability to interpret and apply building codes, regulations, and industry standards to HVAC designs.
 Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
 Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
 Time management and organizational skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
