Position Summary
The Radiochemist Technician is responsible for the accurate, safe, and timely execution of chemical processes used in manufacturing radioactive brachytherapy seeds. You will work in both “cold” (non‑radioactive) and “hot” (radioactive) environments, ensuring strict adherence to safety, quality, and documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform “cold” chemistry tasks including chemical solution prep, target plating, and pellet pre‑plating.
- Conduct “hot” chemistry processes such as irradiated target plating removal, metal fusions, chemical purification (ion exchange or equivalent), and pellet plating.
- Analyze materials at various processing stages using radiation detectors and associated software.
- Perform preventive maintenance on chemistry equipment, including calibrations, glove box upkeep, hot cell maintenance, and material/equipment stocking.
- Maintain complete, accurate quality records for all processes.
- Communicate processing status and material flow updates with the Chemistry team.
- Support special projects or assignments as required.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of chemistry laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience handling chemicals safely preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with radiation detection and measurement equipment.
- Ability to use glove boxes and manipulator arms with dexterity and strength.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Soft Skills
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
Work Environment
- Work may occur in office settings, laboratories, and hot cells with exposure to radioactive materials and chemicals.
- Some tasks require use of PPE including full‑face respirators, PAPR units, or Tyvek suits.
- Strict adherence to radiation and laboratory safety procedures is mandatory.
