Summary
Job Overview:RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a highly dedicated Assistant Director of Patient Care for Pre & Post Surgical Unit at the New Brunswick campus.
Assumes responsibility for the overall functioning Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit at and RWJUH with 24/7 accountability to ensure that it is operationalized safely and completely.
Coordinates and oversees the Perianesthesia nursing care practice area in conjunction with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital.
Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia and the management team to identify needs and improve services. Ensures compliance with Quality Improvement activities, and HRO standards and develops performance improvement ideas. Implements patient care standards, orientation and continuing education. Ensures the unit is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
Qualifications: Required:- BSN required
- At least 2 years of nursing leadership experience required
- PACU / Pre & Post Surgical experience required
- MSN highly preferred
- Previous experience as a nursing director is preferred
- Critical Care experience preferred
- BLS and ACLS certification Active New Jersey Registered Nurse License
- Day Shift, 40 hours per week
- Full-Time On Call Leadership Coverage
- Providing care that is safe, effective and consistent of RWJUH standards
- Applying knowledge of growth and development over the life span
- Applying the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients service on Service Line
- Sharing specialty based knowledge and skills both formally and informally
- Incorporating current research findings into clinical practice Provides open lines of communication for reporting medical errors and near misses using RWJUH organizational tools and resources
- Human Resources/Financial Management Facilitates the safe and effective functioning of the unit as demonstrated by:
- Interviewing and hiring licensed and unlicensed personnel in collaboration with the OR Director Assists the Unit Educator in facilitating orientation process for new employees demonstrated.
- Assists in maintaining a positive preceptor/orientee relationship
- Working with the preceptor/orientee to solve any problems Collaborates with Unit Educators to ensure that orientees complete the unit based orientation within an appropriate individualized time frame Mentors and counsel service line team member as necessary Conducts performance evaluations for service line team members in a timely manner according to policy Manages and controls service line expenditures within agreed budgets Knowledge of administration, budgeting principals, and personnel management Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills acting as a professional leadership role model
- Research, Education and Performance Improvement:
- Demonstrates knowledge of quality improvement, clinical care delivery processes, and staffing,
- Assists with review and/or revision of policy and procedures as related to operational processes,
- Creates and implements action plans for metrics not meeting established goal,
- Demonstrates knowledge of New Jersey Nursing Practice Act, TJC, NJDHSS, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements,
- Demonstrates knowledge of AORN and AAMI Standards,
- Consistently monitors to assure current awareness of the level of patient care being performed in the Operating Rooms,
- Supports and enforces hospital and departmental policies and procedures,
- Provides leadership and direction in order to fulfill the goals and objectives of the unit/organization.
- Effectively communicates information to staff, utilizes resources and manages staff and services.
- Assists the Director with the daily operations of the unit and delegated responsibilities.
- Will be assigned 50 percent of patient care responsibilities.
- Collaboratively prepares and maintains staff schedule and payroll. Effectively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and drives through-out staff accountability.
