This senior leadership role sits at the intersection of strategic account management, commercial excellence, and ophthalmology market expansion within the biopharmaceutical space. The position is responsible for leading and developing high-performing regional teams while driving execution of Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and key account strategies. It plays a critical role in strengthening relationships with major healthcare stakeholders and ensuring consistent achievement of brand and revenue objectives. Operating in a highly regulated and competitive environment, the role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with sales, medical affairs, legal, and trade teams. The Senior Director will shape regional strategy, influence market access dynamics, and ensure alignment with national brand priorities. This is a high-impact position designed for a leader who can translate strategy into measurable commercial success while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and integrity.

Accountabilities:

This role is responsible for leading regional GPO and ophthalmology account strategy execution while developing a high-performing field leadership team and driving consistent commercial outcomes across complex healthcare systems. Key responsibilities include:

  • Building, leading, and developing a regional team of Ophthalmology Account Directors, ensuring strong performance, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Driving execution of brand strategies and ensuring alignment with national objectives, market access priorities, and revenue goals.
  • Overseeing key account management activities across GPOs and strategic ophthalmology accounts, optimizing relationships and commercial performance.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders including sales, medical affairs, legal, trade, and training teams to ensure integrated execution.
  • Analyzing market data, payer environments, and reimbursement trends to inform strategy and resource allocation.
  • Managing regional budget planning, resource deployment, and performance tracking against defined KPIs.
  • Representing the organization externally with key customers, including clinical experts, institutional partners, and GPO stakeholders.
Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical leadership with a strong track record in ophthalmology or related specialty markets. This includes:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in science, clinical, business, or related field preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in pharma or biotech, including at least 7 years in sales leadership roles.
  • Proven success managing regional or district-level teams, ideally at Director level or above.
  • Strong experience in ophthalmology, retina, oncology, biologics, or buy-and-bill product environments.
  • Deep understanding of GPO structures, payer systems, reimbursement models, and US healthcare dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, coach, and retain high-performing commercial teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical capability, and ability to translate data into actionable plans.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 70%).
