Job Description

Quant Developer (QD)

Algert Global is a boutique investment management firm that utilizes data science and machine learning techniques to manage equity portfolios for its clients. Since 2003, we have established a reputation for excellence in quantitative equity strategies in global markets. Our clients are some of the most sophisticated institutional allocators in the world. We manage market neutral, extension and long-only strategies globally.
Your colleagues will include experts in data science and machine learning as well as highly experienced technology and finance professionals. The people who shape our company come from diverse backgrounds and share a passion for collaborating to succeed together.
Closing
You must have authorization to work in the United States. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for the position offered. Accordingly, we are unable to hire individuals who require, or will require, employment visa sponsorship either now or in the future.

We are looking for a pragmatic, systems-focused Quantitative Developer to join our team. Reporting directly to a Senior PM Partner, you will own the infrastructure and deployment pipelines that power our investment process. This is a role for a "pragmatic innovator"—someone who respects the reliability of our existing stack but has the drive to modernize it for the next phase of growth.

You will manage a heterogeneous environment of on-prem and cloud resources, bridging the gap between sophisticated Python research and a robust SQL Server backbone. We aren’t looking for someone to chase trends; we need a developer who can make a complex, real-world system more invisible and efficient for the research team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Systems Ownership: Take the lead on our Python repository management and CI/CD workflows. Your goal is to eliminate friction, making it seamless for the team to move new research into production.
  • database and pipeline: Support SQL Server within a modern CI/CD process, including managing backups, high availability (HA), and performance troubleshooting for our production datasets.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Manage and extend our Ansible and Terraform repositories to handle a mix of Windows and Linux environments
  • Core Services: Support research usage and CI/CD via our on-prem Nexus container registry and PyPI server, or suggest and lead the implementation of cloud-first alternatives.
  • HPC Support: Provide dedicated high-performance computing (HPC) support for seven senior Quantitative Researchers, ensuring their research and simulation environments are stable and optimized.
  • Agentic Integration: Help the team integrate and manage agentic harnesses (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate development, while proactively managing the associated security and data privacy concerns.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of experience, with at least 1 year in a quantitative environment (e.g., GSAM, BlackRock, Citadel, or a pod shop).

The Stack

  • Strong Python backend skills and experience with agentic AI tools or harnesses for code generation and refactoring.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Ansible, Terraform, and Docker
  • Comfort navigating and automating both Linux and Windows environments
  • Experience using storage arrays (e.g., Pure) to automate the provisioning of dev/test environments from storage snapshots.

The Mindset: You enjoy the challenge of tech debt and the satisfaction of incremental modernization. You want a high-impact role with a direct line to leadership and a genuine work-life balance.

The 3 & 6 Month Integration Plan

Phase 1: Integration & Foundation (Months 1–3)
Architectural Deep Dive: Map the full dependency chain from our on-prem registries to the SQL production environment. Identify the "why" behind current technical bottlenecks.
CI/CD Ownership:bbBecome the primary contributor for repo management. Start identifying and fixing the specific bottlenecks that slow down the QR-to-production pipeline.
Alpha-Gen Orchestration:bb Become the primary owner of orchestration for alpha-generation using Airflow and our integrated Python/SQL repository.
HPC Onboarding:bb Establish a feedback loop with the seven senior QRs to understand their current compute pain points and stabilize their simulation workflows.

Phase 2: Evolution & Impact (Months 4–6)
SQL Workload Separation:bb Lead the initiative to migrate non-production jobs off the production SQL Server, reclaiming performance for core research tasks.
Agentic Workflows:bb Formalize the security and usage standards for agentic harnesses like Claude Code, helping the research team safely 10x their iteration speed.
*Resilience Representation:bb Represent the Research and PM team in designing, testing, and managing the DR/BCP processes to ensure our alpha-gen capabilities are bulletproof.
Snapshot Automation:bb Implement storage-level snapshot automation into our Ansible/Terraform workflows to allow QRs to spin up production-identical dev environments in minutes.

The firm provides a profit share and discretionary bonus in lieu of equity options or RSU.
