Job Description
OVERVIEW
The Marketing Specialist for the SC Education Lottery (SCEL) plays a key role in developing and managing external communication initiatives that enhance our brand and engage our target audience. This position focuses primarily on SCEL’s Beneficiaries, including leading the Scholarship Ambassador Program (higher education), and provides secondary support for various functions of the Marketing Department. This position is at will and not covered by the South Carolina Employee Grievance Procedures Act.
DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES
Scholarship Ambassador Program
- Develops and manages the Scholarship Ambassador Program, identifying and highlighting individuals who have benefited from Lottery-funded educational initiatives, such as scholarship recipients.
- Creates and maintains the Scholarship Ambassador Program’s beneficiary database.
- Gathers and organizes data from other state agencies regarding the spending of Lottery proceeds, preparing reports for internal and external use.
- Coordinates the participation of Lottery beneficiaries to attend SCEL-sponsored events, such as ceremonial first pitches, game-ball presentations, etc.
- Initiates contact with school districts and higher education partners via email and/or other outreach methods to engage with students.
Brand Activation Support
- Assists the Brand Activation Manager in the planning and execution of events, serving as secondary contact and providing back-up support for Event Sponsorships.
- Assists the Director of Marketing in negotiating and fulfilling various partnerships, serving as secondary contact and providing back-up support for Sports Sponsorships.
- Assists in coordinating contracts and advertising obligations, collaborating with Legal and the Executive Office, while working closely with internal partners responsible for day‑of event operations.
- Collaborates with the creative team, gathering content for our social media channels, website and other digital platforms, such as stories, imagery and beneficiary interviews.
Other Marketing Support
- Assists with the printing and packaging of marketing materials provided to our retailer partners.
- Collaborates with the team on marketing and content strategy, participating in commercial shoots and other various advertising productions.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or other related field(s), with at least 2 years of prior, relevant, post-collegiate work experience. (Additional relevant work experience may be substituted for the required degree.)

- Passion for creative, audience-focused marketing.
COMP & BENEFITS
While the target entry point for this position begins at $50,000, annually, the final salary determination will be commensurate with experience. As a state employee, we are offered generous leave benefits and participate in Insurance & Retirement through the Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA).
