Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS) is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Latin Teacher to join our Grades 7–12 faculty. Founded in 1998, Mystic Valley Regional Charter School in Malden, Massachusetts serves more than 1,700 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Position Overview

The Latin Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Latin curriculum for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is delivered in alignment with the Core Knowledge program, both in curriculum and methodology.

MVRCS’s high school program also features the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Depending on assignment, high school Latin teaching responsibilities may include IB coursework.

Responsibilities
  • Execute a program of study according to documented curricula and, where applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
  • Teach five subject-area classes daily, as assigned.
  • Deliver instruction using Core Knowledge and IB methodologies with fidelity.
  • Develop and implement lessons based on clear learning objectives and instructional plans.
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback, progress reports, and report cards.
  • Collaborate weekly with colleagues and department leadership regarding curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and instructional practices.
  • Maintain a structured and orderly classroom environment through consistent implementation of the school’s assertive discipline model.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Languages Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Latin, Classical Studies, or a related field required.
  • Strong knowledge of Latin language, grammar, literature, and classical civilization.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Strong organizational, classroom management, and instructional planning skills.
  • Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound educational decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community.
  • Experience assessing student performance and interpreting assessment data preferred.
  • Demonstrated collaborative, instructional, and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of content-area standards, instructional best practices, and relevant educational regulations.
  • Ability to design and implement lessons that support school objectives and diverse student needs.
  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment.

This position reports to the Languages Department Chair and is evaluated annually.
