Retail Success is seeking a Product Owner to join our team in Overland Park, KS. This position is responsible for owning and driving the product backlogs across two distinct product lines with overlapping infrastructure and shared engineering resources. Responsibilities include defining, prioritizing, and evaluating epics and user stories for an agile software development team, as well as ensuring product quality by establishing acceptance criteria and confirming that new features meet those standards.
This role is passionate about building products that make a meaningful difference for users and businesses. It brings strong product discovery instincts, excellent communication skills, and technical fluency in the software development lifecycle, including a solid working knowledge of APIs, integrations, and how backend systems communicate. Success in this position requires the ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and take ideas from discovery to delivery.
Retail Success is a business-to-business FinTech company based in Overland Park, Kansas. - In addition to our fun and collaborative work culture, we offer comprehensive health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k), and Paid Time Off.
- Annual salary of $80-100k, based on education and amount of related experience.
Work Location:
- This role follows a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office, 2 days remote) based in our Overland Park, KS office. Candidates must live in the Kansas City metro area or be willing to relocate.
This is a W-2 position. Applicants must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment authorization (such as an H-1B, O-1, or other employment-based visa) to continue working in the United States.
Required Qualifications:

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager required.

- Strong background in Business Analysis: translating business goals and stakeholder needs into epics, user stories, and detailed requirements.
- Solid technical understanding of the SDLC, including working knowledge of RESTful APIs, API integrations, webhooks, and how backend systems communicate, comfortable having technical conversations with engineering teams.
- Experience in an Agile software development environment (Scrum, Kanban, or Lean).
- Proficiency with JIRA required; proficiency with Confluence strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools for product management and ownership duties including drafting requirements, generating product mockups, running discovery, and accelerating design and development.
- Experience working in a customer-facing role, preferably gathering requirements for software development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Claude Pro for product management and ownership duties.
- Experience in the payments, Point-of-Sale, or fintech industries.
- Experience using AI prototyping tools to rapidly validate and iterate on product concepts.
- Product Owner or Scrum certification (CSPO, PSPO, or equivalent).
- Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent).
- Experience in the direct sales, social selling, or MLM software industry.
Responsibilities:
- Owns and manages prioritized, well-groomed backlogs for both ByDesign and Wayroo, ensuring stories are detailed, acceptance criteria are defined, and the team can execute without delays or ambiguity.
- Leads product discovery efforts including user research, stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, and problem framing to identify opportunities and define new products or features from the ground up.
- Translates business objectives and stakeholder requirements into clear epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can act on.
- Partners with the Product Manager to align product strategy with company goals, communicating roadmap priorities clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Leads requirements gathering sessions, Sprint Planning, and backlog refinement meetings.
- Collaborates with UX/design teams on wireframes, prototypes, and design assets; leverages AI tools including Claude to rapidly generate product mocks and accelerate design-to-development cycles.
- Answers developer questions, clarifies requirements, and removes ambiguity during sprint execution.
- Manages product release plans and sets delivery expectations with stakeholders across both product lines.
- Evaluates ROI for development investments and helps prioritize accordingly.
- Documents new features with clear release notes and works with Marketing to announce new capabilities to users.
- Solicits, tracks, and synthesizes feedback from users, clients, and internal stakeholders across both ByDesign and Wayroo.
- Writes requirements for AI and data-driven features, including GenAI and agentic AI capabilities.
Other Competencies:
