Position Summary
Zachry Construction is seeking an Estimator responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of project bids. The Estimator will prepare cost estimates, select vendors and subcontractors, and determine self-perform crew compositions and production rates. This position requires a complete and detailed understanding of project scope, strong analytical skills, and the ability to perform quantity take-offs and cost evaluations for heavy civil construction projects.
What You'll Do
- Quantify project components assigned by the lead estimator.
- Perform earthwork and underground (stormwater and wet utility) takeoffs and pricing for heavy civil projects.
- Evaluate and prepare self-perform and subcontract cost estimates for assigned discipline items.
- Visit project sites to understand site conditions and potential restrictions.
- Collaborate with other estimating team members to build the estimate and price assigned items in Hard Dollar.
- Review project plans and specifications to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Provide detailed and accurate quantity take-offs.
- Analyze and enter vendor and subcontractor quotes into Hard Dollar.
- Solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors for assigned scopes of work.
- Assist in achieving DBE participation goals through targeted vendor and subcontractor outreach.
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty service providers.

What We're Looking For
- At least 1 to 5 years of experience as an Estimator working on earthwork, grading, or underground projects.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
- Field operations experience strongly preferred.
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred but not required: familiarity with Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Agtek, and HCSS (Heavy Bid).
- Flexibility and willingness to relocate for assigned projects.
