About This Position

Description:

Metiri is a trusted analytical lab delivering environmental testing, and we're looking for a part-time Field Technician to join our team!

The Field Technician is responsible for the timely collection and transport of environmental samples (like water, soil, and air) for laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and supporting the company’s mission to promote environmental health and sustainability.

This position requires availability on weekends and holidays.

Sample transport:

  • Pick up and deliver environmental samples, laboratory supplies, and reports between client sites and the laboratory.
  • Ensure all paperwork, including chain of custody, is properly filled out, signed, and dated by customers and lab personnel.

Sample integrity:

  • Verify that samples are collected, labeled, and transported in compliance with established requirements (i.e. temperature, hold times) to ensure accurate analysis.
  • Maintain sample storage, rotations, and proper disposal.

Field testing:

  • Operate and maintain sampling machinery/equipment.
  • Work independently to perform off-site tests, following established protocols.

Logistics and record keeping:

  • Receive and stock sample control supplies, prepare sample kits, and coordinate shipments.
  • Maintain logs of pick-ups and deliveries, and record vehicle maintenance and driving miles.

Customer service:

  • Interacting with customers in a professional and courteous manner, answering questions, and addressing any concerns.

Vehicle maintenance:

  • Conduct pre-/post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain a clean and orderly vehicle.

Compliance:

  • Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and environmental regulations for handling and transporting samples and hazardous waste.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Experience in a laboratory setting or client services role preferred.

License/Certification:

  • Valid driver’s license, with an excellent driving record for the past 3 years.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Safely operate a motor vehicle and navigate routine hazards of the road.
  • Work independently to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
  • Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, resolve customer requests, ask follow-up questions, or manage difficult conversations.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and the ability to work a predictable schedule, as the role requires the seamless coordination of delivery/pickup routes and the handling of time-sensitive customer inquiries.

Work Environment:

  • Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and testing equipment.
  • Requires frequent outdoor movement and working in various outdoor weather conditions.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods.
  • Frequent pushing/pulling, reaching, and using fine motor skills.
  • Dexterity to move multiple limbs together in a coordinated movement in order to drive or operate machinery.
  • Ability to walk short distances outdoors on various terrain at regular intervals.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying of heavy supplies, equipment, or materials (up to 50 lbs).
