Patient Care Technician-4TH FL
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs a variety of functions in the clinical setting. The PCT provides direct patient care, performs phlebotomy and EKG's. The PCT collaborates with and works under the direction of the registered nurse to provide appropriate and safe patient care. The PCT utilizes the Hospital information system to order diagnostic tests and therapies and obtain patient information and test results. The PCT supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Follows attendance standards and expectations.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as department specific policies and procedures: examples of hospital wide policies include infection control, restraints, and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy when dealing with medical records and patient information.
- Adapts to floating to other units when required.
- Adapts to changing patient assignments as volume and acuity fluctuate.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients, families/significant others, physicians and coworkers. Communicates using phone and paging systems.
- Utilizes computer skills to access information for patient related data, order entry, and hospital systems.
- Manages physical resources (supplies and equipment) appropriately, assuring that adequate supplies and equipment are available and in good working order. Acquires and charges for supplies from Central Service.
- Under the supervision of the RN, assists in delegated aspects of the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care consistent with the patient's age, and developmental level in these specific area.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
• Graduate of a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or PCT program. Qualified to work as a CNA per the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
• Phlebotomy training required. Must pass skills validation within 30 days of hire.
• EKG training and/or certificate preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required
