JOB PURPOSE
The Facilities Technician, reporting to the Facilities Director, supports the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and safety of the school’s facilities. This role is responsible for responding to work orders, performing routine and preventative maintenance, and supporting school events and operations. Working as part of the Facilities team, the Technician helps ensure that the campus is safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Respond to and complete assigned work orders using the maintenance management system, ensuring timely updates and resolution
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, and grounds
Support the basic operation and monitoring of security and fire systems, escalating issues as required.
Support outdoor maintenance and yard work, including seasonal tasks such as clearing debris, snow removal support, and maintaining clean and safe exterior spaces
Carry out general repairs including painting, drywall, and minor building maintenance
Set up and tear down spaces for classes, meetings, and events
Support school operations during peak times, including student arrival and dismissal as required
Contribute to a safe working environment by following health and safety procedures and regulations
Respond to facility-related emergencies such as floods, alarms, or power disruptions
Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Valid driver’s license
Experience performing general labour and basic building maintenance tasks such as moving materials, assisting with set-ups, painting, and minor repairs
Ability to safely operate hand tools and basic equipment
Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and moving materials on a regular basis
Comfortable using digital tools to receive, update, and complete work orders
Strong customer service mindset, with the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with students, staff, parents, and external partners
Reliable and responsive, with the ability to follow through on tasks and support a fast-paced school environment
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Basic familiarity with building environments and ability to identify and escalate maintenance or system-related issues

WORKING REQUIREMENTS
Work takes place across the school campus, both indoors and outdoors
Regular physical activity including lifting, carrying, and moving materials (often up to 50 lbs)
Frequent standing, walking, bending, and use of ladders
Exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
Use of tools, equipment, and cleaning materials with appropriate PPE
Occasional mornings, evenings, and weekends required
This is an on-site role requiring presence on campus five days per week and meaningful engagement in our collaborative school community.
WHAT WE OFFER
The starting rate of pay for this position is $24.40 an hour.
