Position Summary:Reporting to the Marina Supervisor, the Barista is responsible for preparing and serving coffee style beverages and light food items while delivering a high standard of customer service at the Waterfront Market Plaza.
Key Responsibilities:- Prepare and serve coffee, espresso-based drinks, teas and light food items.
- Ensure consistency in drink recipes, presentation, and portioning.
- Ensure compliance and maintain proper food handling and sanitation practices.
- Maintain a welcoming, clean, and efficient café environment.
- Ensure service speed and order accuracy during peak periods.
- Collect and process payments, transactions and POS reconciliation.
- Contribute to achieving sales targets and operational efficiency.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Maintain excellent customer service and answer inquiries, in-person, by telephone or via two-way radio.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies and stock.
- Reduce waste through proper stock rotation and inventory control.
- Work efficiently in a small, compact space and outdoor conditions.
- Be knowledgeable of surrounding tourist attractions.
- Remain current on upcoming events and work schedule changes.
- Conduct safe and efficient operations, care and maintenance of equipment, keys, radios and assets. Report any maintenance issues or deficiencies to the Supervisor.
- Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and service recovery professionally.
- Comply with applicable provincial and municipal legislation including the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and the Municipality’s Records and Information Management Program.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations and the Municipality of Leamington’s Health & Safety Programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Food Handler Certification is preferred, or willing to obtain upon hire.
- Experience in a café or food service environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso equipment is an asset.
- Working knowledge of processing payment and reporting procedures.
- Previous experience in providing exceptional customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- First Aid and Level “C” C.P.R./AED is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Upon hire and when requested, must obtain a satisfactory police clearance.
Hours of Work and Working Conditions:
16 to 35 hours per week. Daytime, evening and holiday hours are required.
Employee Group:Seasonal, non-union.
Wage Rate:$19.50 per hour (2026 rates).
