Title: Bicycle Mechanic

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Job Type: Full Time, Non-exempt

Schedule: 32 hours per week, 4 days per week, Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 5:30pm

We are currently looking for a talented Bicycle Mechanic to join our Santa Barbara team!

The Bicycle Mechanic position is responsible for assisting in the inspection, maintenance, and repairs on bicycles in the shop and the field, as well as assist with battery swapping, bike assembly, and other operational work as needed. This position will entail outdoor work with high exposure to the public and potentially inclement weather. Bike mechanic experience is preferred, and urban riding experience is a must. Mechanics will receive full training on the specific maintenance requirements of the bicycles; however, experience working in mechanically and technically minded environments is required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work under the guidance of Operations Supervisor.
  • Become an expert on all working aspects of bike share fleet.
  • Perform safety checks and repairs in the field and shop.
  • Repair bikes as needed to company specifications.
  • Diagnose E-bike issues via diagnostic software tool.
  • Manage inventory of parts and tools both in shop and on cargo bike.
  • Perform in field repairs on occasion.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance on cargo bikes when necessary.
  • Handle public interactions in the field in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Will require a combination of days in the bike shop and fieldwork.
  • Must diligently maintain accurate service records for all repairs completed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED.
  • Bicycle mechanic experience preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Bike Share experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new software.
  • Proven technical and mechanical aptitude, innovation and critical thinking.
  • Ability to repair E-Bike specific issues.
  • Ability to repair basic bicycle electronics.
  • Ability to manage repair schedule
  • Impressive attention to detail
  • Positive attitude and self-motivation are a requirement
  • Small team skills and a willingness to have fun while completing the goals are a must!

Physical Requirements and Special Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be comfortable riding an e-bike in busy urban environments. Also requires warehouse work and some office work when necessary.
  • Will require bending, stooping, and lifting materials that weigh up to 65 pounds.
  • This is a full-time position expected to work 32 hours per week (4 days per week, 8 hours per day). Some hours outside of this, including nights and weekends, may be required.
  • This role requires the ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand, understand the speech of another person, see details of objects that are less than a few feet away, stand or sit for several hours straight at a time.
