About the Role:

The Lakeside Educational Enrichment Program (LEEP) is looking for individuals to work as LEEP counselors for the 2026 summer program. Counselors are responsible for supporting their assigned lead teachers and mentoring student participants (Grades 6 or 9). This is a full-time position during the summer session from late June through July.

Responsibilities

LEEP values intellectual risk taking and active participation. The LEEP counselor will join a diverse and highly collaborative community of educators that consists of teaching colleagues, student counselors, coaches, and outdoor field instructors. Classroom teams will consist of two student counselors, one lead teacher, and up to eighteen (18) students. Specific counselor responsibilities include:

  • Support a diverse student body who come to the program with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation in earlier academic settings.
  • Help with team planning, assist with instruction and tutoring, and supervision of students.
  • Promote a culture of inclusivity, uphold an environment of trust, and sustain an academically and emotionally supportive learning space.
  • Attend enrichment activities which may include swimming lessons, service-learning work group, and outdoor education field experiences (day or overnight).
  • Aid during culminating program event (i.e., fair, luncheon, ceremony).
  • Contribute to the overall program through added roles or projects such as assembly emcee, promotional video, summer book, breakfast bar, etc. with other LEEP personnel.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Hold an interest in youth education or a related field.
  • Have experience working with a diverse student and/or community population and show an equity and inclusion mindset.
  • Be comfortable supporting English/History, Math/Statistics, and Science/Environmental Studies and research lessons (interdisciplinary course curriculum provided).
  • Act with flexibility, creativity, and safety.
  • Possess the ability to connect with a broad range of learners.
  • Have passion and commitment for student success in and outside of the classroom.
  • Complete state and national criminal history background checks.

Workday / Schedule

The following outlines the required hours of work and events for counselors:

  • First Aid/CPR Certification: integrated into staff orientation for uncertified candidates.
  • Staff Orientation Days (staff only): June 25 – July 1: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. each day.
  • Summer Program (student dates): July 6 – July 31: 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. each day.
  • Sixth Grade Outdoor Trip (staff only to sixth grade): July 23 – 24: two days, one night.
  • Closing Events: July 31: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (final hours will depend upon culminating projects)

Compensation and Benefits

First-time counselors will be paid $4,600 in two installments, for the five weeks of their LEEP employment. Compensation credit will be given to returning counselors. Daily lunch provided.
