Purpose
A Legal Assistant assists and provides a range of legal support and administration to lawyers and other legal professionals engaged in the firm’s practice of representing financial institutions in foreclosure.
Specific Duties, Activities and Responsibilities
- Assisting attorneys in the representation of clients for Hawaii judicial foreclosures including, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Process daily incoming and outgoing mail
- Scan and upload documents into the case management system and notify attorneys and staff accordingly
- File or record documents
- Provide any other administrative support task to attorneys and staff as needed
- Draft legal documents including pleadings/ motions/affidavits/declarations for complaint stage cases.
- Organize and track case files assigned.
- Process mediations cases by maintaining contact with mediation parties; scheduling hearings; requesting and obtaining documents from mediation parties; requesting and obtaining client compliance documents; generating status reports;
- Supports case preparation by drafting case summaries and materials for mediation; organizing materials for team case review;
- Keeps clients informed by maintaining contact and communicating case progress in clients’ third party systems.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma
- At least 2 years experience working as a Legal Assistant
- Paralegal certificate a plus but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of legal principles, legal research techniques and legal terminology.
- In depth knowledge of government regulations.
- Relevant computer knowledge and experience.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent planning and organizing skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent research, analytical, critical thinking skills.
