This role offers a high-impact opportunity to lead safety and health initiatives across complex environmental and construction projects nationwide. You will ensure the well-being of all personnel on-site while maintaining strict compliance with regulatory and corporate safety standards. Operating in dynamic field environments, your expertise will guide teams through remediation, demolition, waste cleanup, and other environmental construction projects. The position combines hands-on oversight, documentation, and proactive risk management with leadership of safety programs that protect both people and project outcomes. Travel is a key component, allowing you to influence multiple sites and mentor field staff on best safety practices. - Develop, review, and implement health and safety planning documents (APPs, AHAs, HASPs) to ensure safe project execution
- Serve as the primary safety and health compliance contact for field teams, subcontractors, and client personnel
- Conduct daily on-site safety briefings and maintain accurate safety documentation, including inspection logs and corrective action records
- Update and communicate Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) as project conditions evolve
- Lead emergency response procedures and enforce compliance with regulatory and corporate safety standards
- Coordinate with project management and construction teams to ensure adherence to project-specific safety requirements
- Facilitate internal and client-facing meetings regarding planned and completed health and safety activities
Requirements:
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience as a health and safety officer on construction projects, with at least 3 years in environmental contamination projects
- Proficient in USACE Safety and Health Requirements Manual EM 385-1-1 and able to meet Class I SSHO qualifications
- Experience with air quality, hazardous and universal waste, wastewater, stormwater, spill prevention, decontamination, and safety inspections
- Knowledge of federal (OSHA) and state occupational health and safety regulations
- Certified 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER with current 8-hour refresher, OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety, and current CPR/First Aid
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
- Ability to travel at least 70% of the time and work on projects ranging from 1 month to 1 year in duration
- Preferred: Excavation Competent Person, Fall Protection Competent Person, Confined Space Supervisor, Rigging training, experience with USACE and EPA clients
