Position DescriptionThe Director of Quality and Excellence is responsible for leading Planned Parenthood of Michigans enterprise-wide quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention and organizational excellence initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Compliance, Quality, Excellence and Risk Management, this role drives the development, coordination, and implementation of affiliate-wide quality programs, ensuring consistency, compliance, and excellence across all clinical and operational services.
The Director holds the appointments of Deputy Patient Safety Officer and Deputy Infection Prevention Officer, and directly supervises the Quality Assurance and Program Excellence Manager and HIMS Coordinator positions. This leader serves as a key member of the Patient Care and Operational leadership teams, while providing subject matter expertise to enterprise-wide departments, advancing a culture of high-quality, safety, accountability, and continuous improvement in alignment with PPMIs mission and values. This leader will fully embody a commitment to race equity; evidenced in all interactions with PPMI colleagues, external stakeholders and in their supervision of staff. Essential FunctionsStrategic Quality Leadership Develop, direct, and evaluate quality and excellence programs across PPMI departments, clinics and administrative functions. Lead the design and implementation of evidence-based quality improvement initiatives, systems and processes, ensuring compliance with Michigan local, state and federal regulations, PPFA guidelines, and accreditation requirements. Champion a culture of quality, safety, and reliability throughout the organization. Oversight & Program Management Supervise and provide direction to the Quality Assurance and Program Excellence Manager and Data Analyst, ensuring aligned performance and program execution. Partner with leadership to establish standardized models that enhance service provision and performance efficiency. Direct and report out quality audits, outcome measurement, and data-driven improvement programs to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities. Lead Level 1 incident review, root-cause analyses, collaborate with Director of Compliance Ethics and Risk Management to advise risk mitigation strategies and recommend corrective action plans for system and process improvement. Compliance & Accreditation Ensure organizational readiness for external audits and surveys, including PPFA accreditation, Title X, CLIA, and state licensure etc. Maintain expertise in current quality, infection prevention, medical emergency management, service provision and compliance standards and ensure dissemination of updated best practices. Collaborate with executives and senior leadership on policy development, review, and implementation. Infection Prevention Leadership Serve as Deputy Infection Prevention Officer, providing oversight for infection prevention initiatives and ensuring best practices are embedded across PPMI services. Direct, monitor, evaluate, and improve organizational infection prevention protocols, and outbreak preparedness in collaboration with clinical leadership. Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement Lead the organization in data-driven quality improvement programs through partnership with Data Analyst to ensure robust data collection, monitoring, and analysis to guide decision-making. Regularly report on quality performance, risks, audit results and improvement strategies to organization including, executive leadership, board committees, and clinical leaders. Promote and support continuous improvement methodologies, project management, and change management across teams. Qualifications and ExperienceRequired Bachelors degree in Quality Management, Health Care Informatics, Nursing, Health Care Administration, or related field. Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, or compliance. At least 5 years of supervisory/management experience. Professional Registered Nursing or Pharmacy or other Healthcare License. Knowledge of advanced quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance practices. Knowledge of process reliability, data analytics, project management, and infection prevention principles. Skill in leading multidisciplinary teams and fostering organizational accountability. Demonstrated ability to achieve objectives in collaboration with other functional areas. Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthoods mission, vision and values.
Preferred Advanced degree (e.g., MSHI, MSN, MHA, MPH, MBA) and/or professional certification (e.g., CPHQ, CPPS, CIC, Lean Six Sigma). Experience with infection prevention oversight strongly preferred.
