About This Position

Description: Job Summary:

As a Judicial Specialist, you serve as a cornerstone of the Probate Court, providing high-level administrative and confidential assistance to judges, attorneys, and the public. You will navigate complex legal processes and sensitive interpersonal dynamics, ensuring that court operations run efficiently while providing compassionate guidance to families during difficult times. Your work directly impacts the legal integrity of the county by maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with South Carolina law.

Top Responsibilities:

· Legal Document Coordination: Receive, process, and prepare complex legal forms and orders—including marriage licenses, wills, and estate documents—while meticulously verifying signatures and the lawful distribution of assets.

· Case & Hearing Management: Coordinate the Judge's schedule with attorneys and law enforcement, manage formal litigation filings, and facilitate interactive video technology hearings with psychiatric and treatment facilities.

· Public & Professional Liaison: Act as a primary point of contact for the court, interpreting policies for pro se litigants and explaining departmental requirements to attorneys and their support staff with poise and professionalism.

Requirements: What you Bring:
  • Experience: One year of clerical or secretarial experience.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Skill Highlight: High level of attention to detail for maintaining case management systems, scanning documents, and tracking annual fiduciary filing deadlines. Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles to process court fees. Ability to communicate with sensitivity and tact when assisting grieving families or handling “urgent matters” under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Willingness to attend meetings, seminars, and workshops to continuously enhance job knowledge and court-specific skills.
