About This Position
Job Summary
Coordinates clinical and patient care activities among nursing units and clinical departments and services as a clinical resource, role model and educator for staff. The supervisor is the administrative representative of the facility while on duty.
Supervises the Following Positions
Positions: Clinical supervision/coordination of hospital activities including staffing of nursing units and patient related activities and functions as liasion with ancillary departments.

Confidentiality: Adheres to established policies on privacy and security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by Shannon Policy.
Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
- Makes frequent rounds on all nursing units; coordinates admissions, transfers and makes room assignments in collaboration with the charge nurse to best meet the patient’s needs.
- Assists in coordinating other hospital activities to include organ donation, OR scheduling during off shirts, obtains equipment and supplies, calling on-call personnel when needed for procedures and assisting with coordination of special discharge needs of patients during off shifts as they occur.
- Maintains clinical skills necessary to provide patient care as defined in the Registered Nurse job description, responds and assists as needed in Code 99, Trauma Codes, and other emergency situations using ACLS protocol.
- Functions as a positive team member by working collaboratively with nursing management, the staff, physicians and ancillary departments; utilizes effective and positive communication skills when interacting with others.
- Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills and works in a self-directed, productive manner, effectively establishes priorities to effectively meet patient care needs.
- Maintains current working knowledge of hospital and clinical policies and procedures and utilizes them as a resource and guide to assist staff; maintains current knowledge and skills of health care and nursing trends, attends appropriate education program.
- Demonstrates professionalism in appearance, attitude, and adaptability; understands the process of change and facilitates the change process in a positive manner.
- Utilizes factual data to make prudent decisions and resolves problems in an objective, fair manner.
- Investigates complaints of staff, physicians and patient/family members and intervenes as appropriate; provides necessary documentation of incidents and discusses with the applicable unit Manager or Patient Care Director.
- Documents and notifies the administrator on call when: standards of medical practice are jeopardized (verbal physical abuse of patient and staff; or physician is not able to provide for patient needs); other pertinent/significant problems occur, especially with legal implications (patient injury or death with potential liability)

Qualifications
Education
- Required
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Associate’s degree in Nursing
Experience:
- Required
- Five years of Hospital experience
- Preferred
- Five years of experience in House Supervision
Certification/Licensure:
- Required
- Registered Nurse (RN), with authorization to practice in the State of Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
