Overview:
The UXO Technician I conducts munitions and explosives of concern related activities which may include munitions responses to MEC, operational range clearance-related activities, and similar operations that involve intentional physical contact with MEC. These activities may also include determination and documentation of the explosives safety status of material potentially presenting, and explosives hazard to be transferred within or released from DOD control.
IMPORTANT: FPM Remediations, Inc. is an 8(a) HUBZone business certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA). FPMR employees who live in a HUBZone, may be eligible to receive additional earnings paid on a bi-weekly basis. These additional earnings will be paid following verification and provision of supporting documents. The HUBZone earnings will continue to be paid if residency in a HUBZone is maintained.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Performs reconnaissance and classification of UXO.
- Identifies U.S. and foreign guided missiles, bombs and bomb fuzes, projectiles and projectile fuzes, grenades and grenade fuzes, rockets and rocket fuzes, land mines and associated components, pyrotechnic items, military explosives, and demolition materials.
- Performs location of subsurface UXO using military and/or civilian magnetometers.
- Assists in performing excavation procedures on buried UXO.
- Performs operator maintenance of military and/or civilian magnetometers.
- Locates surface UXO using visual means.
- Assists in transporting and storing UXO and demolition materials.
- Assists in preparation of non-electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations.
- Assists in preparation of electric firing systems for UXO disposal operations disposing of ammunition/explosives by burning, and disposing of ammunition/explosives by detonation.
- Operates a personnel decontamination station. Dons and doffs appropriate PPE in contaminated areas. Assists in the inspection of salvage UXO-related material and erection of UXO-related protective works.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate of a military EOD School of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, or Australia.
- Graduate of a UXO-TI Course, the EOD assistant’s course or certification of the successful completion of a comprehensive assessment from a Department of Education accredited institution of higher education.
- NOTE: Documentation of course completion or completion of a comprehensive assessment must be provided with application for UXO vacancies.
Knowledge, SKills and Abilities:
- Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel and Outlook.
Cerificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must have or obtain OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training upon start to include,
- obtaining a Physician’s statement indicating a successful pass of the HAZWOPER physical exam, otherwise known as a “Fit-for-Duty” exam (at company expense)
- ongoing annual maintenance of a HAZWOPER certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle tools and controls; operate vehicles and equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, ascend and descend equipment, balance, stoop, kneel, see and distinguish colors, talk, hear. The employee must be able to lift heavy equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs (Note: lifting more than 50 lbs requires two or more personnel). This position also requires frequent walking. Fieldwork is performed in various outdoor terrain and regularly requires the ability to navigate uneven ground or other obstacles found in natural surroundings.

Extensive travel to field sites may be required. Fieldwork involves performing physically demanding tasks and working 10-hour days (typically five (5) 10-hour days per week), potentially in adverse field conditions (cold, hot, high wind, dusty environment, rough terrain) in remote locations.
