The Monarch San Antonio – A Legacy of Service and Sophistication

The Monarch San Antonio, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, is a 200-room, 17-story boutique hotel located in the Hemisfair District of downtown San Antonio. It is set to open in early 2026 and is inspired by the Monarch butterfly that migrates through the region each winter. The hotel will feature a full-service spa, a terrace pool, and five food and beverage concepts, including a rooftop restaurant and bar.

Position Overview

The Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation and cooking of high-quality dishes while supporting the kitchen team in delivering exceptional culinary experiences. This entry- to mid-level role requires precision, discipline, and a strong willingness to learn in a high-volume, fast-paced, five-star luxury hotel kitchen environment.

What You'll Do

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Cook and assemble dishes according to standardized recipes and plating guidelines.
  • Ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation across all menu items.
  • Prepare food for all hotel outlets, banquets, events, and in-room dining.
  • Follow instructions from the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Executive Chef accurately and efficiently.

Hygiene, Safety & Standards

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Follow HACCP, food safety, and sanitation standards consistently.
  • Handle, store, and label ingredients properly to maintain freshness and prevent contamination.
  • Use kitchen equipment safely and report malfunctions or hazards promptly.

Teamwork & Learning

  • Work collaboratively with kitchen team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Follow direction and actively learn techniques from senior chefs.
  • Assist in training or guiding junior kitchen staff when required.
  • Participate in team briefings, daily production planning, and kitchen meetings.

Inventory & Equipment Care

  • Assist with checking deliveries and storing ingredients properly.
  • Rotate stock according to FIFO (First In, First Out) standards.
  • Properly care for kitchen tools, appliances, and equipment to ensure longevity and safety.

What You'll Bring

Required Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–2 years of professional kitchen experience required.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Culinary diploma or professional culinary training preferred.
  • Experience in a luxury hotel or high-end hospitality environment preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a professional attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work flexible schedules including weekends, holidays, and special events.

Licenses or Certificates

  • Food Handler Certification required.
