Paramedic, MedCheck Urgent Care
General Summary:
The Paramedic participates as a member of the MedCheck Urgent Care staff by performing various assessments, treatments and technical tasks as requested. Under the supervision of the Urgent Care provider (MD, DO, APRN or PA), the Paramedic assists with the delivery of care within the limits of his/her training, and documents that care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions*:

Assesses and treats patients within the scope of the Paramedic license and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Assists with room cleaning and turnover.

Collects and documents data in the Urgent Care record including but not limited to vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturations, height/weight and peak flows), assessments, treatments, etc.

May perform all procedures within the scope of the Paramedic license and as in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and at the direction of a provider, including but not limited to:
-
IV insertion and maintenance
-
cast application and removal
-
oxygen therapy
-
setting up sterile procedures
-
ear irrigations
-
initial care and treatment of burns as well as follow-up care and debridement
-
cleans and dresses wounds
-
blood draws (except legal samples)
-
patient teaching on the use of crutches, splints, dressings and wound care
-
Documents all assessment and care given in accordance to departmental policy.

Administer all medications listed and approved by the state for Paramedics.

Administer medication categories below that are not on the state list:
-
Narcotic and non-narcotic pain medications, oral, IV or IM.
-
IV Piggy back antibiotics and antiemetics not currently on the approved state list.

Immunizations
-
Over the counter medications
-
Once certified, performs Chain of Custody (COC) urine collections and Blood Alcohol Testing (BAT) as indicated.

Performs ACLS procedures per license.

Provide care and assistance as needed for critical care transports.

Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required.

Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.

Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.

Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.

Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.

Qualifications:

Education
Required: High School Graduate or equivalent
Completion of an approved Paramedic Program
Preferred:
-
Work Experience
Required: Experience in a health care setting.
Preferred: Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a hospital setting serving the same age/type of patient population.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: Must be a certified EMT-P (Paramedic) in the State of New Hampshire. Have current BLS certification (adult, child, and infant), PALS and ACLS. Certification in COC and BAT within 6 months of hire.
Preferred: Specialized trauma courses.

Other Skills/Knowledge
Required: Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient and staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources.
Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner.
