Essential Functions
An ELA (English Language Arts) teacher's primary role is to educate students in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. They develop and deliver lessons that engage students in meaningful learning experiences, fostering an appreciation for literature and effective communication. ELA teachers also assess student progress, collaborate with colleagues, and create a supportive learning environment
Responsibilities
- Creating and implementing lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards that cover grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and various literary genres.
- Teaching students how to analyze texts, improve writing skills (essays, narratives, research projects), and express themselves effectively.
- Helping students develop critical thinking, analytical abilities, and a deeper understanding of literature and language.
- Evaluating student work through assignments, quizzes, and essays to assess progress and provide feedback.
- Creating a positive and engaging learning environment encourages participation, collaboration, and academic growth.
- Providing extra help to students who need it, and adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Keeping parents and guardians informed about student progress and participating in school activities.
- Working with other teachers and staff to support student learning and development.
- Participating in ongoing training to stay updated on best practices and educational trends
Qualifications

Physical Demands
- Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes, to sit.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print.
- Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
