About This Position
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated early childhood educators to join our team in locations throughout the Durham and Orange Counties. This position is employed through Families and Communities Rising, Inc. in a FCR Head Start classroom. The Head Start Teacher Assistant must be able to assist with planning and implementing learning experiences; advancing the intellectual and physical development of children; improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic, print and numerical awareness; improving their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary; improving their appreciation of books; improving their problem solving abilities; establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment; supporting the social and emotional development of children; encouraging the involvement of the families and; supporting the development of relationships between children and their families.
Major Duties/Functions/Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the teacher to ensure that lesson plans are well planned and implemented on a daily basis
2. Arrange and maintain a healthy, safe, clean, and attractive physical environment; setting up learning centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies
3. Physically participate and collaborate with the teacher to ensure that daily classroom and physical gross motor activities are well planned and implemented
4. Participate with the teacher in conducting two (2) home visits and two (2) parent/teacher conferences per child per program year
5. Attend and actively participate in all staff meetings, recommended training programs and conferences, in-service training sessions and workshops
6. Assist in maintaining on-going communication with parents concerning their child. The teacher must be informed of all information shared with parents regarding children or other professionals and all significant communication about children will be documented in their educational records. Maintain accurate files and other records as directed by lead teacher
7. Manage children’s behavior in accordance with FCR Head Start Discipline & Behavior Management Policy. To always use an appropriate tone of voice and refrain from any negative comments to or in front of children.
8. Adhere to the FCR Head Start Policies and Procedures
9. Adhere to Head Start Performance Standards and North Carolina Child Care Requirements
10. Encourage volunteer services from parents and community.
11. Participate in family style eating during meals and snack
12. Maintain supervision of children at all times (classrooms, bathrooms, playgrounds, field trips, etc.).
13. Assist with general housekeeping tasks
14. Ensure that anything that could be harmful to children is kept under lock and key.
15. Ensure that all child specific information is filed as directed and kept in a locked file cabinet at all times
16. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by the Teacher and FCR Head Start Education Coordinator.
17. Document and record children's growth and development according to the Head Start Child Outcome Measures as directed
18. Ensure that each child practices dental hygiene care (1) once daily
19. Ensure that medication is administered to children as directed by the School Nurse and written procedure and written permission is obtained from medical doctor and parent/legal guardian
Qualifications and Knowledge/Skills Required:
• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
• 3-5 years experience working with preschool age children in a high quality early childhood program
Salary:
$16-18 per hour
