About This Position
Department: Municipal CourtFT / PT: Part-TimeSalary: Up to $25 per hour, based on experience
Job Summary:The Municipal Court Violations Technician reports to the Municipal Court Administrator. The role is responsible for data entry, case scheduling, payment processing, daily reconciliation of traffic/criminal accounts and preparation of daily deposits. Provides customer service to the public by way of phone, email and written correspondence in addition to handling all in-person traffic at the violations window. Answers public inquiries on traffic and criminal matters and provides direction and procedural guidance to the public. Part time hours up to 29 hours, Monday through Friday.
Job Responsibilities:
● Has charge of and performs work involved in collecting fees for traffic violations in relation to the acceptance of appearance, waiver of trial, entry of pleas, payment of fines and costs and traffic violations ● Responsible for data entry of traffic and non-traffic complaints into the MACS system ● May attend court sessions
● Reviews, checks and certifies reports, applications and other documents for correctness where difficult determinations are concerned
● Handles special requests for information in accordance with prescribed rules and regulations
● Receives, reviews and adjusts complaints
● Answers inquiries and handles correspondence
● Prepares reports and statements
● Makes decisions requiring thorough knowledge of organization
● Maintains, classifies, indexes and cross-references records and files. Maintains traffic and criminal master file in accordance with Judiciary directives
● Must abide by the Judiciary Code of Conduct which can be found on www.njcourts.gov
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● At least one (1) year experience with ATS, ACS, eCDR, MACS, PageCenter and DMV
● At least one (1) year of experience in work related to the administrative operation of a municipal court, law enforcement agency, or law office, including the preparation and/or processing of legal documents
● Required to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units
● Knowledge of the methods, techniques and procedures used in planning and implementing work activities
● Knowledge of the problems involved in the formulation of effective policies and procedures for the office and other clerical and related operations
● Knowledge of the methods used to prepare and supervise the preparation of statistical and other reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations
● Knowledge of the methods used in supervising the establishment and maintenance of records and files
● Knowledge of general accounting and statistical record keeping methods
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
● Experience with MACS system
● Bi-Lingual in Spanish
Education, Certifications and Licenses:
● Graduation from High School or Vocational High School, or possession of an approved High School Equivalency Certificate
● Current certification as a Municipal Court Administrator issued by the New Jersey Supreme Court pursuant to NJSA 2B:12-11 may be substituted for the indicated experience
● Although certification is not required, a violations clerk must successfully complete Principles of Municipal Court Administration I and II as required by the New Jersey State Judiciary
Certification Not Required, but Preferred “Effective September 13, 2011, all newly appointed deputy municipal court administrators, who are not certified municipal court administrators pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2B:12-11, must obtain conditional accreditation within six (6) months of the date of appointment. All newly appointed, non-certified deputy municipal court administrators must obtain full accreditation within three (3) years of the date of appointment. A non-certified deputy municipal court administrator, who fails to obtain conditional accreditation or accreditation within the time frames provided above will be ineligible to remain in that title. The Municipal Court Administrator Certification Board may grant an extension of time upon a showing of good cause.
Physical Requirements:
● The employee must have the capacity to sit and stand for long periods of time
● The employee must have the capacity to lift or move up to 25 lbs
Additional Information:
● Clearance of Township of Hillsborough and NJ Courts background check
● Department operation hours are 8:00am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday
● May require some work outside of normal business hours for evening court sessions, programs or meetings
