JOB SUMMARY
-
Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs computed tomography and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomical images for interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:

Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient’s clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.

Operates computed tomographic equipment and accessories after demonstrating knowledge and competency in theory and practical application of CT techniques including: Medical Center, Radiology and CT policies; CT scanner manuals; safety table/gantry operation; scanning procedures; image storage retrieval; image manipulations; image processing and contrast media administration.

Performs examination by analyzing all relative information to select proper scanning protocol. Edits scan protocol by own judgment upon observation of patient images to facilitate the highest possible diagnostic value, positioning patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest. Accommodates patient ability, comfort and modesty, immobilizing patient as required. Observes to recognize changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress (seizure, aspiration, choking, struggling, coughing, artifact causing motion, etc) and takes action as necessary.

Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters and provides CD’s assuring proper patient identification is recorded on each image.

Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.

Demonstrates competency and knowledge in methodology of venipuncture including visual activity and digital sensitivity for vein selection and accurate manual dexterity to work with small needles and accurately place them in patient’s veins. Identifies and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.

Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed. Performs quality assurance scans.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum requirement:
-
Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiography program or equivalent.
-
Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
-
Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.
-
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Preferred qualifications:
-
Advanced ARRT certification in CT

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Constantly works near moving mechanical parts

Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.

Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals

Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).

Frequently required to walk and move about.

Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.

Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.

Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.

Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.

Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.

Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
