Description: Description

The Housing Department at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is currently seeking to hire temporary Skilled Crafts/Trades for the summer to assist with campus facilities. Current positions available:

Plumber - 1 Vacancy

Salary: $51.61 per hour
SIUE Plumbers perform routine plumbing tasks and services to maintain a comfortable, safe and efficient environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Repair, replace, install all plumbing fixtures, and services to those fixtures, e.g., piping, fittings, valves, etc.
  • Repair, replace, services, installs heating and refrigeration units and gas appliances.
  • Uncrates, moves plumbing equipment, refrigeration units and gas appliances.
  • Repair and/or replaces high temperature and chilled water lines.
  • Performs an assortment of plumbing tasks to renovated or new construction spaces for offices and/or instructional areas
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department/university's mission and goals. Plumber positions may be assigned to Housing or Facilities Management departments.

Painters/Tapers - 9 Painter Positions and 3 Painter Taper Positions

Salary: $34.49 per hour

The Painter performs journeyman painting tasks to maintain a comfortable, safe, and efficient environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works with a variety of interior and exterior surfaces
  • Making appropriate repairs or preparations as necessary, and repairs/replaces all glass and glazing for windows and doors.
  • Refinish furniture and other woodwork as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department/university's mission and goals.


Carpenters - 3 Positions

Salary:$45.87 per hour
Carpenters are responsible for performing carpentry work in all areas of the university and on all campuses (Edwardsville, Alton, and East St. Louis) while maintaining a comfortable, safe, and efficient environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Repair and/or replace doors, door hardware, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs.
  • Uncrate/assemble new furniture and equipment for relocation; deliver furniture in accordance with prevailing agreements.
  • Also repair furniture as needed.
  • Install interior and exterior signage.
  • Perform an assortment of carpentry tasks to construct new spaces for offices and/or instructional areas.

Construction Laborer - 1 Position

Salary: $36.48 per hour
They are responsible for the clean up after work in occupied spaces and buildings, and maintaining a clean and safe space for residents. The laborer's ability to provide clean-up support, in addition to other tasks including pick up of construction materials, is critical in work flow and repairing spaces in a timely fashion for residents and meet their expectations and needs for their living space.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and construction of retaining walls
  • Perform exterior drainage correction and excavation support
  • Responsible for picking-up materials from vendors, unload construction materials and deliver to respective job sites
  • Responsible for layout, pour and finish concrete; asphalt repair and sealing; tuck point and masonry repair.


Pipefitter - 2 Positions
Salary: $51.61 per hour

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform duties specific to and normally required in the pipefitter trade, following recognized procedures and techniques.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair pipe systems, pipe supports, temperature control devices, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Perform work on steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems.
  • Perform associated work using oxyacetylene or electric welding processes.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department's mission and goals.

Electrician - 1 Position
Salary: $52.41

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Repairing/replacing/installing all electrical wiring, receptacles, switches, electrical motors, and other electrical equipment requiring special wiring.
  • Installing and replacing interior and exterior lighting fixtures and lamps.
  • Performing an assortment of electrical tasks to renovated or new construction spaces for offices and/or instructional areas.
  • Repairing/replacing/rebuilding electrical and electronic controls and other specialized equipment.


FLSA: All positions are non-exempt

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Plumber
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years (60 months) of full-time journey- level plumber experience.
  3. Possession of current State of Illinois Plumber's License.
  4. As required by position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area. i

i Dependent upon institutional need, incumbents may be required to obtain job-related certification or license, such as a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Abatement Worker License. Painter
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program or four (4) years (48 months) of full-time journey-level painter experience.
  3. As required by the position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery, and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area. i

i Dependent upon institutional need, incumbents may be required to obtain job-related certification or license, such as a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Abatement Worker License. Carpenter
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Successful completion of a recognized carpenter apprenticeship program or four (4) years (48 months) of full-time journeyman-level Carpenter experience (the trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by carpenters, millworkers, floor layers, and any other classifications encompassed within the scope of work included in these trade categories).
  3. As required by the position to be filled, current license/certification consistent with vehicles, machinery, and equipment that is routinely used in the general occupational area. i

i Dependent upon institutional need, incumbents may be required to obtain job-related certification or license, such as a valid Illinois Department of Public Health Lead Abatement Worker License. Construction Laborer
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of experience in the use of tools and equipment commonly used by laborers in the construction trade (examples of equipment may include: air hammer, concrete saw, patent scaffolding, trench digging equipment, etc.) and experience should include knowledge of asbestos removal/handling.


Pipefitter (Refrigeration Mechanic)
1.

A. Certificate of completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training program
OR
B. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Pipefitter or other Pipetrade classification with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, and/or Oil Burner Mechanics.

Additional Information: This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status.
