We are privately held American owned Small Business made up of five (5) vertically integrated manufacturing and assembly divisions, each with their own history, specializations and products.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating conventional (manual) machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to produce precision metal parts. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read blueprints, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
Key Performance Indictors: List two to five measurable tasks that are key to indicating the performance level in this role:
• Set up and operate manual machining equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses
• Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements
• Measure and inspect parts using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
• Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance
• Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for various materials
• Maintain tight tolerances and ensure parts meet quality specifications
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments
• Deburr, clean, and finish machined parts as required
• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area
• Document production and quality records as required
Qualifications and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred
• 10+ years of experience operating manual machining equipment
• Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments
• Basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment
• Familiarity with tolerances and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
• Ability to operate multiple types of manual machines
Work Environment
• Manufacturing/shop environment
• Exposure to machinery, moving parts, and industrial noise
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots
