Position: Podiatry LPN
Department: Podiatry
Reports To: Director of Consulting

Position Summary
The LPN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the Podiatry department. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with Direct Care providers about changes in patient's status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies.
General Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
- Performs accurate and complete assessment of patients; coordinates and ensures completion of interdisciplinary screenings and assessments; assesses and reassesses pain; assessments are age, culture and psychosocial appropriate.
- Explains specialty procedures to patient/family; utilizes specialty equipment; assists physician(s) with procedures; utilizes other departments to provide interdisciplinary care as appropriate; utilizes pain management techniques.
- Educates the patient/ family regarding treatment plan and follow up instructions given per provider instructions including any education handouts.
- Provides routine foot care, including trimming nails.
- Prepares and administers medications based on age / clinical condition of the patient per policy and nursing standards of care; manages supply of medications and contacts pharmacy as needed to ensure uninterrupted medication therapy.
- Follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation; obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors and other needed information.
- Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors; utilizes established hand-off communication protocols; maintains the security of the department.
- Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Licensure Requirements
- Current IL LPN License Required
- BLS Required
Experience Requirements
- LPN minimum 2 years Preferred
- Podiatry and/or wound experience Preferred
Computer Skills
- Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs
