QA & Release Manager

Lytx is building a next-generation product platform combining a cloud-native AWS backend with embedded IoT hardware, including in-vehicle gateways and smart cameras. We are seeking a hands-on QA Manager who will build and lead a new QA team while also serving as Release Manager, owning quality gates and production readiness.

This role requires a strong balance of technical depth, leadership, and accountability, with direct responsibility for release sign-off and production deployment approvals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and own the overall QA strategy for a hybrid cloud and IoT-based platform.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a co-located QA team in San Diego.
  • Serve as Release Manager, responsible for:
    • Coordinating release readiness across engineering, product, and operations
    • Approving production deployments
    • Ensuring quality criteria are met prior to release
  • Define and maintain test plans, test strategies, and quality metrics across services and devices.
  • Actively participate in hands-on testing, including:
    • Manual functional and regression testing
    • Automated test development
    • Test environment setup and maintenance
  • Drive test automation using Python and/or Node.js.
  • Oversee test environments, including cloud services, hardware labs, and integrations.
  • Partner closely with engineering to triage defects, reproduce issues, and improve root-cause analysis.
  • Continuously improve QA processes, tooling, and CI/CD quality gates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.Sc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience leading QA or test teams in complex technical environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based systems (AWS) and distributed services.
  • Experience with manual and automated testing in production systems.
  • Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP, MQTT).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience

  • QA or integration testing of IoT or hardware-enabled products.
  • Fleet management, telematics, or automotive-adjacent platforms.
  • Release management or production readiness ownership.
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.

Salary is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is also eligible for an incentive compensation plan. The expected hiring salary for this position is:

$162,250.00 - $204,750.00
