About This Position

About the Role:

Summer at Lakeside is currently recruiting for a 9th/10th Grade Writing Teacher. This course provides students entering grades 9 and 10 with training in different modes of writing, particularly analytical writing. Special attention will be paid to critical thinking, organization, clarity, proper use of grammar and punctuation, and citation protocol. Students will study various short works of literature (stories, poems, plays, and essays) to orient writing tasks and will engage in conferencing as well as peer-editing workshops to work through various drafts. This is a an ungraded course earning no credit.

Class runs June 22 - July 10, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. There will also be a mandatory employee orientation on Thursday, June 18.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create inclusive and culturally responsive curriculum for this course
  • Design curriculum appropriate for a group of high-school students that have different educational backgrounds and experiences
  • Create organized and engaging lesson plans for each day
  • Provide individual support and adapt different teaching strategies for students needing additional instruction
  • Provide written final comments for each student

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
  • Prior experience teaching a diverse middle-school, high-school, or college-level student population; demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset. Candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases; candidate actively works to create an inclusive classroom environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, master’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Experience with inclusive and multicultural curriculum development
  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks
  • CPR & First Aid certified by June 22, 2026
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Positive and collaborative attitude

Compensation and Benefits:
The stipend for this position is $2,000-$2,050. Lunch is included. The course may only run if enough students register. Enrollment will remain open until June 1. If the number of students enrolled is too small to run by June 1, or if the course is canceled for any reason, the stipend will not be paid. Summer at Lakeside also offers free Investigative Learning Camp enrollment for children (entering Gr.3-8) of summer employees during the weeks they are working. The Investigative Learning Camp runs July 6-July 31.
