The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The medical oncology secretary coordinates activities at the front desk/reception area.

Interacts effectively with the medical providers and all team members.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Computer experience

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a medical office

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full Time Day
  • Monday - Friday
  • 8:30a- 5:00p

Essential Functions:

  • Registers patients, reviews patient insurance plans, maintains accurate records in regarding referral, office visits
  • Answers, forwards, and refers telephone calls/messages to appropriate personnel in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Schedules appointments for office visits and for procedures as required
  • Prepares charts in accordance with the office standards for daily appointments
  • Maintains orderly and systemic filing of patient documentation/records in a timely fashion
  • Registers patients as required fully completing all of the registration procedures
  • Assists with the reconciliation of accounts at the end of the month allowing for ease of process through the coding and billing departments
  • Maintains accurate information on patient s insurance plan regarding referral, authorization for radiation therapy, office visits, and procedures
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively addresses issues; identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner
  • Actively assist in the orientation and preceptorship of new employees
  • Interacts with patients and families in an empathetic, caring manner; acts as patient advocate
  • Work collaboratively with all healthcare professionals
  • Demonstrates telephone courtesy and initiative in addressing concerns of caller
  • Assists in the throughput of patients within the department
  • Contributes toward improving cost effectiveness and productivity
  • Scans in house bills encounter forms and daily schedule to billing office daily
  • Obtains and documents pre-certifications in chart for tests/procedures ordered by physicians in a timely manner
  • Collects co-payments, deductable, and/or coinsurance from patients as required by the insurance company at time of visit
  • Accurately enters charges for patient visits into system on a daily basis,
  • Participates in on-going documentation review
  • Achieves or maintains professional certification specialty area
  • Participates in Educational opportunities
  • Participates in Community based events
