Project Manager at Geo-Hydro Engineers – Charlotte, North Carolina
About This Position
Job Summary:
The Project Manager supports engineering, geotechnical, and environmental projects and your duties will include utility coordination, boring layout, seismic refraction and shear wave velocity data collection and analysis, resistivity survey data collection, subcontractor coordination, soil classification, and drafting boring logs and figures for project geotechnical reports. Additionally, your duties will quickly expand to include project management, proposal preparation, report preparation, and training other geotechnical personnel and future interns. You will quickly be exposed to Geo-Hydro’s method of technical report writing and project management and introduced to our subcontractors, clients, and internal processes for managing and executing geotechnical projects.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesField Observation and Testing
- Utility coordination
- Data collection
- Report preparation duties.
- Log data on project reports.
- Observe and document construction practices for compliance with approved project plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Operate specialized testing equipment such as nuclear density gauges, penetrometers, and concrete testing apparatus.
- Prepare proposals.
- Train geotechnical personnel including interns.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Documentation and Reporting
- Accurately document all field observations and test results using proper English grammar and technical writing practices.
- Prepare clear, concise field and laboratory reports in a timely manner for internal review and client submission.
Project Support and Management (as experience is gained)
- Assist in project setup including reviewing plans, obtaining project specifications, and coordinating schedules.
- Support with scheduling technicians and field staff, communicating with clients, writing technical reports (e.g., footing letters, remedial recommendations), attending site visits, and participating in project meetings.
- Perform billing, review budget summary reports, and assist with collections as necessary.
- Uphold the company’s professional image through consistent, positive client interaction and communication.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies outlined in the Geo-Hydro Safety and Health Manual.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in required safety training.
- Maintain awareness of site-specific hazards and promote a culture of safety.
Business Development and Client Relations
- Attend networking or client engagement functions as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist with drafting technical proposals, scopes of work, and budgets.

- Must have graduated from an accredited 4-year engineering, geology, or approved environmental science program.
- Must maintain professional licensing as applicable.
- Must adhere to the company's safety driving program standards.
- Must have a thorough understanding of relevant laboratory testing such as: ASTM D422, D698, D1556, D1557, D2172, D2216, D2487, D2937, D4318, D6938, and ASTM STP 399.
- Must be able to work outdoors on a wide range of project types from multi-family and single-family residential, industrial, parks and recreation, water/wastewater, higher education, K12 education, municipal, and commercial and retail infrastructure
- Set-up project and complete project set-up sheet, obtain drawings and specs, work as a team with other project managers and upper management to schedule subcontractors, field staff and specialty services.
- Must be able to proactively communicate to the client and project team, write technical reports pertaining to the projects, visit project sites, confirm that reports are transmitted in a timely manner, invoice the project, and review budget summary reports,
- Must be able to attend project meetings, attend staff meetings, and enhancing company Image with professionalism.
- Must be able to lift, load and unload material samples weighing up to 100lbs.
- Must be able to manually hand auger down to 10 feet into soil to obtain samples and perform portable dynamic cone penetrometer testing. The hand auger may require up to 50 pounds of pull to remove it from wet soil conditions. The total weight of the dynamic cone penetrometer ranges from 20 to 40 pounds. Operation of the penetrometer requires repeated raising and dropping of the 15-pound slide weight.
- Maneuver heavy equipment such as concrete wheelbarrows (150–200 lbs), soil density hammers (25 lbs), and nuclear density gauges (up to 90 lbs).
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as swinging concrete test devices, hand augering up to 10 feet, or excavating with hand tools.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess or obtain relevant certifications including but not limited to ACI, ICC, OSHA 10/30-hour, and others as deemed necessary by supervision.
