The Nursing Technician performs patient care and non-patient care functions within their scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include but are not limited to ADL’s, vital signs, I&O, performing EKGs, documentation of vital signs and I & O, simple dressing changes, specimen collection, assisting with meals, errands, transporting of patients, medications, or specimens, ambulating of patients, urinary drainage care (indwelling, external and suprapubic), assists with colostomy care, applies binders, weighs patients, assists health care providers with procedures and physical exams, and other duties as assigned.

6. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit-based issues.
7. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team.
8. Completes competency requirements.
9. Attends mandatory in-services.
10. Attends staff meetings as required/ requested.
11. Utilizes cost containment practices.
12. Adheres to all WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.
13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

• • High School Diploma/Equivalency required
  • Previous experience in hospital or with patient care preferred
  • Successful completion of the Nursing Technician Orientation
  • As of April 1st, 2017, BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Nursing Technicians.
  • Nursing Technicians must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 6 months.
  • Nursing Technicians that will be trained to read the monitors require the 4-day EKG class
  • Nursing Technicians in the Emergency Department must complete de-escalation training within 1 year of hire or transfer to the Emergency Room.
