About This Position
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Lead Rental and EPG Technician is responsible for overseeing day-to-day maintenance, repair, and readiness of rental equipment and EPG assets. Leading a team, this position will assist, guide, direct, oversee, and train technicians to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for customer use. This role requires working under pressure, leading by example, and quickly troubleshooting and resolving equipment issues that require immediate attention in both shop and field environments.
Requirements:Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with rental equipment, generators, or heavy equipment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or lead technician role.
• Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, power generation equipment, hydraulics, and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
Preferred Qualification(s):
• Experience with EPG systems including generators, transfer switches, load banks, and paralleling equipment.
• Familiarity with DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations related to equipment operation and transport.
• Experience using CMMS or rental management systems to open, update, and close work orders.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with operations, sales, and customers.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Technical training or work experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
Essential Job Functions:
• Diagnose and reduce downtime—troubleshoot and repair rental equipment and EPG assets with accuracy, efficiency, and safety as top priorities.
• Oversee daily workflow—coordinate with the Manager to schedule, assign, and prioritize work orders to meet customer and operational demands.
• Serve as the technical escalation point—support technicians with complex diagnostics, customer issues, vendor coordination, and emergency breakdowns.
• Ensure safety and compliance—verify all equipment meets safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies prior to rental or deployment.
• Mentor and develop the team—train technicians on best practices, diagnostics, and repair procedures while promoting teamwork and accountability.
Leadership Responsibilities:
• Lead rental and EPG technicians—assign work, monitor repairs, ensure quality standards, and keep the team productive and engaged.
• Support fleet reliability and growth—assist in planning preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, and large-scale repairs or rebuilds.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and push or pull up to 100 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in shop and field environments.
• Ability to remain focused in fast-paced, high-pressure situations and respond effectively to urgent equipment needs.
Work Environment:
• Fast-paced, service-driven rental and power generation environment.
• Occasional nights, weekends, travel, and on-call duty to support customer and emergency power needs.
