About This Position

Position Title: Intern - Data Engineering

Location: Des Moines, IA, United States

Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the annual three-day summer intern event in Des Moines, Iowa where they will have the opportunity to tour state-of-the-art facilities, network with leadership, and gain a broader understanding of MidAmerican Energy Company. Other panels, lunch and learns, and events will be happening throughout the summer to give our interns the best experience.

Responsibilities:
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines to collect, process, and transform data from various sources.
  • Work with team members and business groups to understand data requirements and support analytics projects.
  • Help prepare clean and structured datasets for use by Data Scientists and Analysts.
  • Perform basic data discovery, profiling, and quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Support development of ETL processes using Python, Spark and SQL under guidance from senior team members.
  • Learn and assist in implementing data models and storage solutions in relational and cloud-based systems.
  • Follow data security and governance best practices when handling data.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot simple data workflows with guidance from the team.
  • Document data processes and tasks to support transparency and learning.
  • Collaborate using Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, and Azure DevOps for communication and project organization.
  • Respond to feedback from team members and strive for continuous learning and improvement.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Experience using Python and Spark to develop data engineering pipelines
  • Experience using SQL to work with database tables and ETL processes.
  • Taken coursework in data analytics, machine learning, statistics, or computational mathematics preferred.

Qualifications
  • Must be a college student, sophomore, or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in data analytics, data science, computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or related field of study.
  • Must be available June 2026 - August 2026.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Windows operating environment.
