Job Description:
As a Planning Intern with the City of Chesapeake’s Planning Department, you’ll play a hands-on role in shaping the city’s growth and development. Working under general supervision, you’ll support initiatives within the Current Planning Division—assisting with new development project review, staff report data collection, attending development meetings, and learning about various planning elements.
This internship offers a chance to build your professional skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and see how planning decisions help create vibrant, sustainable communities.
Typical tasks, but are not limited to:
- Project Support: Provide support to planning staff on various projects, learn different aspects of current planning.
- Research and Analysis: Conduct research on land use, zoning regulations, and development trends. Analyze data to support planning initiatives and projects.
- Document Management: Assist in the organization of planning documents, reports, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Administrative Tasks: Perform general administrative tasks such as data entry.
Required Qualifications:
Students participating in the Internship Program will be responsible for :
- Providing their own transportation to and from work,
- Arriving at the work site at the time designated by the work site supervisor.
- Performing the tasks assigned by the vocational instructor/coordinator and the work site supervisor in an efficient manner.
- Demonstrating honesty, punctuality, courtesy, a cooperative attitude, appropriate dress, and a willingness to learn.
- Conforming to the guidelines of the internship work site.
