About This Position

Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports, they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach almost 80,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

CAMBA CollegeBound (CCB) helps middle and high school students explore their futures with confidence. Through engaging workshops, individualized advising, college trips, and hands‑on support with applications and financial aid, we guide students as they discover their strengths, explore post‑secondary options, and take meaningful steps toward college and career success. CCB is a supportive, energizing space where young people can ask questions, dream big, and build the skills they need for what comes next.

Position: College Access Advisor

Reports To: CollegeBound Coordinator

Location: Various sites

What The College Access Advisor Does:

  • Empower middle and high school students across CAMBA’s Beacon, Cornerstone, and housing programs through high‑impact advising that builds confidence and readiness for life after high school.
  • Guide and motivate students through every phase of the college journey—researching options, building balanced college lists, crafting essays, completing applications, and navigating financial aid.
  • Activate student and family engagement by leading dynamic workshops, info sessions, campus visits, and enrichment experiences that expand awareness of post‑secondary opportunities.
  • Elevate program visibility by creating compelling flyers, newsletters, and social media content.

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, youth development, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Must have or obtain DOE fingerprint clearance and maintain clearance throughout employment.

Minimum Experiences and Skills Required:

  • Experience supporting high school youth in educational or college access settings (e.g., afterschool, advising, tutoring, mentoring, or similar roles).
  • Experience counseling students on post-secondary education options, knowledge of U.S. education system, especially New York City and State, familiarity with financial aid and college application process.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of all college types—including CUNY, SUNY, HBCUs, private schools, and trade schools.

  • Deep commitment to community-based work and educational equity.
  • A strong communicator who can build trust with both students and families.
  • A collaborative, upbeat, and proactive mindset.

Compensation: $50,000 annually

Status: -Full-time (35 hours per week)
